The club was founded in 2022 with a merger of two clubs, Leiknir Fáskrúðsfjörður and Fjarðabyggð and was named Eastfjords (Austfjarða) Football Club.

The Selfoss men's football team, commonly known as Selfoss or UMF Selfoss, is the men's football department of the Ungmennafélag Selfoss multi-sport club. It is based in Selfoss, Iceland and currently plays in the 2. deild karla, the third tier of Icelandic football after being relegated from the 1. deild karla in 2018. The team plays at JÁVERK-völlurinn and traditionally play in a maroon strip.

2. deild karla (transl. Men's Second Division) is a football league in Iceland. It is the third division in the Icelandic football league system. The current champions are Afturelding from Mosfellsbær, who won their 1st title in 2018. The division was started in 1966 as third division with two provisional groups, with number of teams varying from 7 to 10 teams in each group.
