'Football success was not driving decisions', admits Tottenham after avoiding relegation

Tottenham have remarkably admitted that "football success had not been driving our decisions" in an open letter to the fans.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/tottenham/UDg08Ohm/"]Spurs[/a] narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League, leaving it until the last day with a 1-0 win over Everton to secure their survival.[/p][p]It’s the second consecutive season Tottenham have finished in the bottom half of the table, with fans rightfully outraged with the powers that be at the club.[/p][p]In an open letter to those disgruntled fans, non-executive chairman Peter Charrington admitted "football success had not been driving our decisions."[/p][embed guid="655f7bdd-3e2c-4ec2-aaaf-5c45a9c75048" url="https://x.com/SpursOfficial/status/2058868165593973022" social-type="twitter" /][p]"Last September, we recognised that something seismic had to change at Spurs," wrote Charrington, who was appointed to the Spurs board in March 2025.[/p][p]"The Lewis family stepped in and authorised a full reset. That decision was not taken lightly, and it came later than it should have.[/p][p]"As part of that process, we discovered some uncomfortable truths," he added.[/p][p]"[b]The qualities that make Spurs distinct, our football, our ambition, the connection between the team and its supporters, had been allowed to fade. Football success had not been driving our decisions[/b].[/p][p]"[b]We did not have the right expertise in key roles. We did not build squads good enough to compete in the most demanding league in the world[/b]."[/p]
