TSG Hoffenheim reignited their push to qualify for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) with a second successive Bundesliga victory, defeating Hamburger SV 2-1 on the road to set a new club record for top-flight victories in a single season.

[p]With recent form for both sides making this game vital to their respective ambitions, the contest started at pace. Early promise from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/hamburger/v9k3aY5F/"]Hamburg[/a] quickly dissipated, though, allowing [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/hoffenheim/hQAtP9Sl/"]Hoffenheim[/a] to seize control and get the opener inside 20 minutes.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/coufal-vladimir/n92l9Tl1/"]Vladimir Coufal[/a] seemed to defy physics to keep the ball in on the right-hand side, before sending in a cross for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/asllani-fisnik/IsoKFb9C/"]Fisnik Asllani[/a] to arrive and side-foot past [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/heuer-fernandes-daniel/Mcx5TeXa/"]Daniel Heuer Fernandes[/a].[/p][p]Knowing that victory would all but guarantee their safety, the hosts rallied, taking advantage of a mistake from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/kabak-ozan/nBbGuPN8/"]Ozan Kabak[/a] to equalise.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/glatzel-robert-nesta/SKtwDNsR/"]Robert Glatzel[/a] raced through and was taken down while rounding [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/baumann-oliver/MZ6BATVO/"]Oliver Baumann[/a], resulting in a penalty which Glatzel buried down the middle of the goal himself. [/p][p]However, Hamburg were pegged back once again just moments before half-time when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/hajdari-albian/p6M74psE/"]Albian Hajdari[/a]’s speculative header into the crowd fell perfectly for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lemperle-tim/OYG8XB8m/"]Tim Lemperle[/a], who volleyed underneath Heuer Fernandes from close range.[/p][embed guid="879b63f9-6e74-4639-aa67-0ea029aa20b1" url="https://x.com/tsghoffenheimEN/status/2048107867484328395" social-type="twitter" /][p]That was a cruel blow for a Hamburg side who hadn’t been second best in the half, but they continued to push for redemption after the break as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/konigsdorffer-ransford/SllmjqTg/"]Ransford Konigsdorffer[/a] failed to steer [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/capaldo-nicolas/CtSuqGep/"]Nicolas Capaldo[/a]’s cross goalward.[/p][p]As things started to get scrappier and chances harder to come by, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/jatta-bakery/0I86Dos5/"]Bakery Jatta[/a] would have been kicking himself not to bury an unmarked header from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/vieira-fabio/E1jSdqUR/"]Fabio Vieira[/a]’s cross, especially as that proved to be their last clear chance to get anything out of the game.[/p][p]Christian Ilzer has transformed Hoffenheim from relegation candidates to potential UCL participants, and it will be a fascinating final three matchdays to see whether they can beat Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen to fourth place.[/p][p]At the other end, a six-match winless run has pushed Hamburg back into the mire, but they still hold a five-point buffer to rivals St. Pauli in the relegation play-off spot.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/hajdari-albian/p6M74psE/"]Albian Hajdari[/a] (Hoffenheim)[/p][image alt="Key match stats" id="2edad4c1-e084-4bca-bca4-ad6de62ae77d" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform" guid="4fcc4e64-cdfd-4f14-b0a5-41fc34158e2c" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/hamburger-sv-v9k3aY5F/hoffenheim-hQAtP9Sl/?mid=jgaFBmfA"]Check out the match stats here[/a].[/p]
