SAFA President Jordaan leaves all options open with regards Hugo Broos' future

[p]Broos initially said he would retire from coaching after the World Cup but has since backtracked on that after leading the team to the round of 32 at the tournament, where they lost to Canada.[/p][p]His contract expires at the end of this month after five years in charge, but it seems there is a willingness from both SAFA and Broos to talk about keeping him involved in some form.[/p][p]The waters were muddied on Thursday when sports minister Gayton McKenzie, who has no say in the decision, publicly stated that Pitso Mosimane should be the next Bafana coach.[/p][embed guid="ab8d9cee-d60d-4744-bdec-14242cc9d31d" url="https://x.com/BafanaBafana/status/2072559974077649232?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p][b]“To our team, and particularly our coach Broos. It’s been a long journey of five years,” [/b]Jordaan said as the side touched down in Johannesburg. [b]“We started number 85 in the world, and we end up now in the 40s (they are 54th).[/b][/p][p][b]“It’s a wonderful celebration of South African football, a huge contribution that was made, and I’d like to personally thank Hugo Broos and his technical staff for working day and night.[/b][/p][p][b]“We need to work harder, because we’re one of those teams where most of our players are locally based. We hope that some of the players now get the contracts outside our own country, and after that we’ll have to make sure that we build a team that can compete again in 2030.”[/b][/p][embed guid="40af1d14-14c0-4274-abe1-9dc798e1a029" url="https://x.com/BafanaBafana/status/2072524302138704141?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]On the performance of the side at the World Cup, Jordaan said there would be an evaluation to look at the way forward.[/p][p][b]“We are going to evaluate our performance in the tournament, we’ll talk about it, and we’ll tell you again of the next phase of South African football, and we are hopeful that we’ll continue on this upward trend.[/b][/p][p][b]“We need to talk to Hugo Broos, and we will let you know (the outcome) after that conversation. It is a confidential one, a private one.”[/b][/p][p]Bafana are next in action in September when they start their qualification campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in June/July next year.[/p][p]They have Kenya, Guinea and Eritrea in their qualification pool. [/p]
