[p]Both sides were left disappointed on the opening weekend of the season, with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/liverpool/lId4TMwf/"]Liverpool[/a] requiring a 99th-minute penalty to salvage a point at [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/newcastle-utd/p6ahwuwJ/"]Newcastle United[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/nottingham/UsushcZr/"]Nottingham Forest[/a] succumbing to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/leeds/tUxUbLR2/"]Leeds United[/a] in front of their own supporters.[/p][p]As such, this was a chance for one of the teams to kickstart their respective season, something the players appeared aware of in the first half. [/p][p]The visitors were the livelier of the two early on and, after [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/jacquet-jeremy/h0WK6DL4/"]Jeremy Jacquet[/a] produced an important stop to deny [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/igor-jesus/zPQTw5fe/"]Igor Jesus[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ndoye-dan/EmmpFCXN/"]Dan Ndoye[/a] placed a free header wide, the latter broke the deadlock midway through the half.[/p][p]As was often the case in the opening stages, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gibbs-white-morgan/beZNT1bB/"]Morgan Gibbs-White[/a] was involved, laying the ball off for the Switzerland international to stroke into the far corner.[/p][embed guid="e86d5c31-541e-4b79-a85b-aba34f3f7a4c" url="https://x.com/NFFC/status/2093670649818452312" social-type="twitter" /][p]Despite the setback, Liverpool responded well and had several chances to equalise.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/wirtz-florian/0Q5gjImi/"]Florian Wirtz[/a] was the pick of the Reds’ bunch, and he thought he had scored just after the half-hour mark when he buried into the bottom corner on the turn, but the goal was ruled out as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/frimpong-jeremie/SjJ6pCvC/"]Jeremie Frimpong[/a] was offside in the build-up.[/p][p]Wirtz then saw a header tipped over by [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/sels-matz/Qqo54dB7/"]Matz Sels[/a], before [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/munoz-victor/EBMXXrd3/"]Victor Munoz[/a] curled wide from close range when he really should have hit the target.[/p][p]Offering a reminder of their attacking threat, Forest almost doubled their advantage on the brink of half-time when only a fantastic [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/alisson/UZrQ3bwP/"]Alisson Becker[/a] stop kept Jesus’ first-time attempt out.[/p][image alt="Match momentum" id="a8de34e0-369a-43ac-b1d1-a6b9cfe0b85b" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="b8d63983-0ce4-4b76-a09c-e647b199e514" original-width="2160" original-height="2700" /][p]Both teams initially found themselves in promising positions after the restart but failed to create any clear-cut opportunities.[/p][p]That, though, was until [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gakpo-cody/pWyuBud0/"]Cody Gakpo[/a] picked the ball up on the right and placed it on a plate for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/isak-alexander/p41IV42c/"]Alexander Isak[/a], who tapped home into an empty net from a couple of yards with an hour on the clock. [/p][p]Many would have expected Liverpool to press on from there, but within 10 minutes they were behind once more.[/p][p]Not long after being introduced, record Forest signing [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/delap-liam/6cfkytBh/"]Liam Delap[/a]’s quick throw-in released [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/williams-neco/YVxu86Hs/"]Neco Williams[/a], and while his lob over Alisson went wide, the Brazilian shot-stopper took out the former Liverpool player, giving away a penalty in the process.[/p][p]From the resulting spot-kick, Gibbs-White made no mistake to restore the away team’s lead.[/p][p]In response, Liverpool rallied and mustered up another equaliser with a little under 10 minutes remaining.[/p][p]It was a first for Munoz, who hammered a fierce strike in off the crossbar, giving the home team hope of turning the game on its head. [/p][embed guid="7d36fbfb-a386-4a61-9968-a4935be2d9b0" url="https://x.com/LFC/status/2093689908133011813" social-type="twitter" /][p]Ultimately, though, Andoni Iraola’s men never looked like stealing the three points from that point on, meaning they have to make do with a share of the spoils.[/p][p]After two games, they are on just two points, which is hardly the start the new boss will have hoped for. [/p][p]Forest, meanwhile, will feel they should have got more from this game after leading twice, but this is certainly something to build on for Glasner and Co.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/jacquet-jeremy/h0WK6DL4/"]Jeremy Jacquet[/a] ([a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/liverpool/lId4TMwf/"]Liverpool[/a])[/p][image alt="Key match stats" id="b0787cf1-303c-4ee3-bd77-0c20a7ea1006" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="a4ee0b4a-5b34-4a15-ad91-2c1c0d9a0421" original-width="2160" original-height="2700" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/liverpool-lId4TMwf/nottingham-UsushcZr/?mid=CYJLO78D"]Catch up on the match here.[/a][/p]
