The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday that former All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith tragically passed away at the age of 36.

In 2014, Smith was given a nine-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, along with the NFL's personal conduct policy.[/p][p]A year later, Smith was suspended for the full season after being arrested for DUI in California, once again violating the league's substance abuse policy. The NFL would come down harder on Smith, giving him an indefinite ban from the league as his off-the-field troubles continued, including a domestic violence charge, for which he turned himself in. [/p][p]He missed out on playing in the NFL for four years from 2016 to 2019 before finally being able to return in 2020, when he finished his career with the Dallas Cowboys, playing in all 16 games. [/p][p]Smith finished his career with 228 tackles, 52.5 sacks, 10 pass deflections, five forced fumbles, one interception, and one touchdown. [/p]
