[p]It was during the [b]1955–56[/b] [b]season[/b] that the first [b]Most Valuable Player[/b] in NBA history was named. The aim was to recognise the season’s best player, and this tradition has taken root and continues to this day.[/p][p]A total of [b]36 players[/b] have won the MVP award at least once, from the first recipient, [b]Bob Pettit[/b], to the most recent, [b]Shai Gilgeous-Alexander[/b].
