Germany continue to stutter after goalless draw at stubborn Greece

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/greece/COuk57Ci/"]Greece[/a] may have surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw with the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/netherlands/WYintcWb/"]Netherlands[/a] last time out, but confidence was clearly still high following their 1-0 win a week earlier in Augsburg, as it took no more than a minute for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tsimikas-konstantinos/SEyNdMro/"]Kostas Tsimikas[/a] to deliver a peach of a cross for the rising [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/masouras-georgios/Ma5qH2yn/"]Georgios Masouras[/a], whose header required a brilliant save from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/urbig-jonas/6TJsuRSF/"]Jonas Urbig[/a].[/p][p]Even so, Germany quickly gained a foothold and the momentum, as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/wirtz-florian/0Q5gjImi/"]Florian Wirtz[/a] had an effort deflected over following a mazy run, before [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/scherhant-derry/jRG1UH32/"]Derry Scherhant[/a] produced a curling effort from outside the box that [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tzolakis-konstantinos/G0ZL7CGI/"]Konstantinos Tzolakis[/a] clutched at full stretch.[/p][p]Tzolakis had to be alert again to bat away a [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/bischof-tom/fRZB21nI/"]Tom Bischof[/a] piledriver, but his and Greece’s resistance looked to have been broken in the 32nd minute, when Scherhant squared for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/burkardt-jonathan/MicyKu3h/"]Jonathan Burkardt[/a] to bundle the ball home, only for VAR to spot a handball in the build-up from Bischof.[/p][p]Once Scherhant and Wirtz had both seen late chances whistle just past Tzolakis’ posts, Greece had done enough to keep the scores level at half-time, as Germany looked set for a fifth competitive away match in a row to feature two goals or fewer.[/p][image alt="Match stats" id="0731d773-e6a2-4807-80f0-c323549a4bb2" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="ae8e18ee-d17c-4f4d-9549-f0ae8a8322bd" original-width="2160" original-height="2700" /][p]The visitors’ dominance looked set to continue when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lennart-karl/t0q0DalG/"]Lennart Karl[/a]’s curler from distance was caught by Tzolakis, but despite plenty of pressure, that was the only save the home goalkeeper had to make before the hour mark, while a downward [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/mavropanos-konstantinos/zBXgM0Xa/"]Konstantinos Mavropanos[/a] header from a corner was simple for Urbig to deal with.[/p][p]The scrappy second half continued to be punctuated by fouls and stoppages, but was reignited 15 minutes from time when a delightful [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/saliakas-manolis/6BJTL9uJ/"]Manolis Saliakas[/a] cross was headed just over by Masouras.[/p][p]Germany’s defeat of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/serbia/8Kl6iq0i/"]Serbia[/a] before this encounter ended a four-game winless run, but their late attempts to build a winning run lacked creativity, as Wirtz sent an effort sailing over before [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/treu-philipp/zXOjivLH/"]Philipp Treu[/a] sent a dangerous cross over the top on a half-volley.[/p][p]It’s just two defeats in 16 Nations League matches for Greece, though Ivan Jovanovic’s side continue to struggle for home form, having failed to win five of their last six.[/p][p]Germany sit third in the group and are on course to miss the Nations League Finals for the fourth time in five editions despite being League A everpresents.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/thiaw-malick/0vSsR1xI/"]Malick Thiaw[/a] ([a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/germany/ptQide1O/"]Germany[/a])[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/germany-ptQide1O/greece-COuk57Ci/summary/stats/?mid=hblmOCoI"]Check out all the match stats with Flashscore.[/a][/p][infobox id="5a8fbd57-e97c-4bdc-9f6b-fb0fb254e893" /]
