James Wade produced the performance of the night at the UK Open on Saturday, dismantling Michael van Gerwen 10-3 to send the multiple world champion crashing out and underline his own credentials as a serious contender.

[p]The emphatic victory was the evening’s biggest shock and one of the most dominant displays of the tournament so far. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/wade-james/MRrXjBAB/"]Wade[/a] controlled the match from the outset and rarely allowed [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/van-gerwen-michael/SU4UkKsm/"]Van Gerwen[/a] to get into any rhythm. [/p][p]In his current form, Wade could yet pose a genuine threat to tournament favourite [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/littler-luke/0URN6Xks/"]Luke Littler[/a].[/p][embed guid="338e5f5c-7db9-4000-a916-0939c568e28d" url="https://x.com/OfficialPDC/status/2030397729742946580?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]Littler himself had earlier been forced to work hard for his progress. Against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/doets-kevin/I14LCcyQ/"]Kevin Doets[/a], he averaged 93.68 -- almost four points below his opponent’s 97.22 -- and trailed in maximums by seven to four.[/p][p]But the teenager found his rhythm when it mattered, pulling clear late on to secure a 10-5 victory. [/p][p]He later followed that with another convincing display, defeating Scotland's [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/anderson-gary/MyKZZS6r/"]Gary Anderson[/a] 10-5 to reach the next round.[/p][embed guid="40a4c682-d99b-4201-9de4-49a444ac95c1" url="https://x.com/OfficialPDC/status/2030385389979001107?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]There was disappointment for Luke Humphries, however, as one of the sport's leading names again fell short of expectations.[/p][p]'Cool Hand Luke' was beaten 10-6 by the Netherlands' Danny Noppert, continuing an inconsistent run of form.[/p][p]Welsh star [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/price-gerwyn/8dDDoW0B/"]Gerwyn Price[/a] endured a nervy route through the draw. He edged past [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/joyce-ryan/tYs5VMm6/"]Ryan Joyce[/a] 10-7 in the last 16 before squeezing through a deciding-leg contest against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/barry-keane/Ycu2Oplg/"]Keane Barry[/a], winning 10-9.[/p][embed guid="8a48e461-6a66-4958-b614-2f07a43e3be7" url="https://x.com/OfficialPDC/status/2030396827330097382?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]Elsewhere, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ratajski-krzysztof/jNZjSeIT/"]Krzysztof Ratajski[/a] confirmed his improving form with a 10-5 win over [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/searle-ryan/UFF3Eh5C/"]Ryan Searle[/a], the recent surprise world championship semi-finalist. [/p][p]Four German players had reached the last 32, but none progressed further. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/schindler-martin/pWemrnqQ/"]Martin Schindler[/a] pushed Anderson before losing 10-7, while [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/clemens-gabriel/fNei7lJH/"]Gabriel Clemens[/a] was heavily beaten 10-2 by Wade.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gruellich-dominik/QF73Q2Vh/"]Dominik Grullich[/a] went down 10-7 to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/rock-josh/xKxxNY1P/"]Josh Rock[/a], and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gotthard-kai/l2Utsowk/"]Kai Gotthardt[/a] exited after a 10-6 defeat to Van Gerwen earlier in the day.[/p][image alt="Quarter-finals order of play" id="3cdb4894-7679-438d-b3eb-ce8fbfa65cd6" credit-line="PDC" guid="d4b0fc13-142d-4643-ad05-3039ba642fb1" original-width="1080" original-height="1350" /]
[a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/darts/united-kingdom/uk-open/"]Follow the UK Open with Flashscore[/a]
