Brazil star Neymar is on course to shake off a calf strain and could even be ready for their opening match of the World Cup, coach Carlo Ancelotti said on Saturday.

[p]After reports the 34-year-old forward could be out for three weeks, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ancelotti-carlo/nZQG5IgJ/"]Ancelotti[/a] instead insisted [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/neymar/jNOPwl3h/"]Neymar[/a] was working well towards fitness for the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/brazil-I9l9aqLq/morocco-IDKYO3R8/?mid=b5JayTEd"]June 13 match[/a] against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/morocco/IDKYO3R8/"]Morocco[/a] in New Jersey.[/p][p]"We believe he'll be back very soon and if he doesn't make it for the opener, he'll be there for the second game," said Italian Ancelotti.[/p][p]Former [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/barcelona/SKbpVP5K/"]Barcelona[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/psg/CjhkPw0k/"]PSG[/a] star Neymar, now at Brazilian club [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/santos/n3QdnjFB/"]Santos[/a], will miss [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/brazil/I9l9aqLq/"]Brazil's[/a] two pre-World Cup friendlies against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/panama/OWKqbCfi/"]Panama[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/egypt/bejDn7NN/"]Egypt[/a].[/p][embed guid="1642343a-53c3-42c8-a77b-eddc9a9ee4cc" url="https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/2060710664981664118" social-type="twitter" /][p]Brazil play Panama Sunday at the Maracana stadium before setting up camp in New Jersey on Monday and playing a final warm-up against Egypt on June 6 in Cleveland.[/p][p]Neymar's inclusion in Ancelotti's 26-man squad for the World Cup was something of a surprise as he had not been picked for the national team in almost three years due to a mixture of injuries and poor form.[/p][p]However, Neymar is Brazil's all-time leading goalscorer with 79 goals in 128 appearances for the Selecao. This will be his fourth World Cup.[/p]
