A sense of "disbelief" hangs over the India camp after the double 20-overs world champions suffered a 2-0 series whitewash against Ireland, with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate blaming the ‌debacle on their failure to adapt to conditions in Belfast.

[p]Few gave [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/ireland/GEmG3lXa/"]‌Ireland[/a] a chance in the two-match series, but ‌Lorcan Tucker's side humbled [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/india/fcOzl2uI/"]India[/a] twice in three days, spoiling [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/iyer-shreyas/INzfXBtM/"]‌Shreyas Iyer[/a]'s debut series as India's 20-overs captain.[/p][p]"There's a ‌little bit of disbelief," Ten Doeschate told reporters after Ireland [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/cricket/india-fcOzl2uI/ireland-GEmG3lXa/?mid=8fGotyET"]edged them out by one run on Sunday[/a].[/p][p]"It's also very hard ‌to be critical of guys who have just won a ‌World Cup. We've been outdone or outsmarted by a team who just did the basics very well."[/p][p]The former Dutch player hailed Ireland's inspired display but felt the Indian batters failed to get used to conditions at Stormont.[/p][p]"Firstly, credit to Ireland and secondly, the learnings for us in terms of being able to adapt to different conditions," he said. "That's probably the biggest takeaway from this."[/p][embed guid="c5b3b557-6127-4292-b6d4-0c2a61832c61" url="https://x.com/cricketireland/status/2071299994984796311" social-type="twitter" /][p]Coming off the flat pitches and short boundaries in the Indian Premier League, Iyer ‌and his men struggled on a spicy pitch with bigger square boundaries.[/p][p]Ten Doeschate acknowledged his batters failed to make the transition.[/p][p]"That was essentially our undoing," he said. "It's something we spoke about before, but we just didn't address it well enough out in the middle."[/p][p]"We're probably too used to a tempo and style where you can hit sixes more freely. I think this will ‌be the case when you go to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/england/UJC5mtAU/"]England[/a] as well, you know, maybe slightly quicker wickets, maybe slightly ‌less wind, but we're going to have to adapt and be a lot smarter about how we'd like to play if we're going to get wins there."[/p][p]India's next assignment is a tour of England featuring five T20 and three one-day internationals, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/cricket/england-UJC5mtAU/india-fcOzl2uI/?mid=E9gMqB8m"]starting ‌July 1st[/a].[/p]
