Leeds United are a provisional nine points off the Premier League (PL) relegation zone, after a 3-0 success over the all-but-doomed Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road.

[p]Bustling with confidence after their first Old Trafford league win in 45 years, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/leeds/tUxUbLR2/"]Leeds[/a] wasted virtually no time in putting themselves on the brink of the magic 40-point mark, with a strong start leading to the Whites taking an 18th-minute lead.[/p][p]Showing the same failings that have put them mere days from a confirmed relegation, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/wolves/j3Azpf5d/"]Wolves[/a] were unable to clear an Ao Tanaka corner, and after a brief maelstrom that saw [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/okafor-noah/EDhpumvd/"]Noah Okafor[/a] denied, the ball bounced kindly enough for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/justin-james/vqYXNUDI/"]James Justin[/a] to fire an overhead kick into the Wolves net.[/p][p]The visitors barely had time to take stock of their joint league-high 24th opening goal conceded before Leeds doubled their advantage barely two minutes later.[/p][p]A quick counter down the right flank saw [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/aaronson-brendan/0GqS59FE/"]Brenden Aaronson[/a] open up the feeble Wolves backline and send a low ball to the fire post, which Okafor – the double-scoring hero of Old Trafford on Monday – gleefully fired in, for his fourth goal in five to arrive inside the opening half-hour.[/p][image alt="Momentum" id="6a0cbcde-fbe8-42e3-adaf-9bf766802c8a" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform" guid="315784b5-f4c4-4045-8a37-371c5bdf9f42" original-width="1920" original-height="1080" /][p]It was only then that the away side managed to reimpose some order and craft a couple of promising chances, but with Leeds ending the first half outscoring Wolves 5-1 in terms of shots on target, the points always looked safe.[/p][p]That said, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/krejci-ladislav/nZ8SVvvE/"]Ladislav Krejci[/a] came close to putting Wolves back in the game just after the hour mark, when he headed straight at [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/darlow-karl/tCXYzajG/"]Karl Darlow[/a] at the end of a corner. [/p][p]Meanwhile, Leeds were relatively sedate in comparison to the opening act, with next weekend’s all-important FA Cup semi-final firmly in mind.[/p][p]The visiting faithful were momentarily roused when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/armstrong-adam/djcqZvPg/"]Adam Armstrong[/a] lobbed Darlow for an apparent consolation on 83’, but the linesman’s flag ensured denied Wolves even that shred of comfort.[/p][p]For their part, Leeds’ best open-play chance of the closing minutes fell to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/struijk-pascal/dQgXn8kR/"]Pascal Struijk[/a], when he collected a pass and ran towards goal with pace, before unleashing a powerful drive wide from the edge of the box. [/p][p]However, Leeds would eventually get that third goal when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/bueno-hugo/0EjILYmN/"]Hugo Bueno[/a] felled [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/calvert-lewin-dominic/0WmBe6U2/"]Dominic Calvert-Lewin[/a] inside the box, and the World Cup hopeful blasted his spot kick past a helpless [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/bentley-daniel/SWSRDdEf/"]Daniel Bentley[/a].[/p][p]In truth, Wolves never looked like recording a maiden away league win, and will officially be a second-tier side at last if [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/tottenham/UDg08Ohm/"]Tottenham[/a] beat [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/brighton/2XrRecc3/"]Brighton[/a] in the early evening kick-off.[/p][p]Meanwhile, Leeds will cherish the momentum they’ve built up ahead of next weekend’s Wembley showdown with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/chelsea/4fGZN2oK/"]Chelsea[/a], after a fifth straight PL H2H victory over Wolves.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/justin-james/vqYXNUDI/"]James Justin[/a] ([a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/leeds/tUxUbLR2/"]Leeds United[/a])[/p][image alt="Key match stats" id="c4c20da0-6d30-4e38-a782-5e72adbd217b" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform" guid="5605c7d8-0594-4188-bb91-35dc729f28eb" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/leeds-tUxUbLR2/wolves-j3Azpf5d/?mid=djO1gnkf"]Catch up on the match here.[/a][/p]
