Charlie McAvoy joins Bruins royalty after goal against Flyers

Charlie McAvoy joined hockey legend Ray Bourque as the second Boston Bruins defenceman in the last 40 years to reach a nine-point streak after he scored his fifth goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.

[p]The Olympian who helped lift the U.S. to a gold medal win over Canada this year. During his historic streak, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/mcavoy-charles/G6fOVXzb/"]McAvoy[/a] has posted just the one goal but has 10 assists. He now brings his season total up to five goals and 36 assists through 47 games.[/p][p]Unfortunately, for the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/boston-bruins/jeans23J/"]Bruins[/a], they fell to the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/philadelphia-flyers/QySGG7oT/"]Flyers[/a] 3-1 in their second game back from the break.[/p][embed guid="61853012-dae0-4f7b-b7ce-a87ecb6d9a76" url="https://x.com/NHL/status/2027838848613364039?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]McAvoy, 28, has spent his entire nine-year career with the Bruins since the team selected him 14th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft. He made his NHL debut the following season and earned a spot on the 2017-2018 All-Rookie Team after posting seven goals and 25 assists in 63 games, also placing fifth in voting for the Calder Memorial Trophy (Rookie of the Year). [/p][p]Since then, McAvoy has developed into one of the league's more premier defencemen, recording at least 35 assists in four of the past five seasons, also setting a career high in goals (12) during his 2023-2024 campaign. [/p][p]He needs 11 more assists this season, with just 23 games to go, if he wants to set a new single-season high.[/p][p]McAvoy has 65 goals and 276 assists through 550 games.    [/p]
