The Swedish Hockey League's (SHL) return after a nine-day break was not a happy one for the top two teams, as Frolunda and Skelleftea both fell to overtime defeats to two of the league's bottom three teams.

[p]For first-placed [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/frolunda/pAG4OqEE/"]Frolunda[/a], it's now seven defeats in their last eight SHL matches, more than double the number they had in their previous 36 games. This time, they were [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/frolunda-pAG4OqEE/orebro-Y3RLgQQn/?mid=t2UmeYQh"]shocked 5-4 away[/a] at [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/orebro/Y3RLgQQn/"]Orebro[/a], who took the lead midway through the first period through [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/karlkvist-patrik/Y7fL73An/"]Patrik Karlkvist[/a].[/p][p]Frolunda seemed to have finally regained their stride in the second period, as after [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/innala-jere/fse4jvhm/"]Jere Innala[/a] levelled and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ylonen-jesse/dtzHiDhK/"]Jesse Ylonen[/a] briefly put the hosts ahead, goals from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/stenberg-ivar/UwurqeCM/"]Ivar Stenberg[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tommernes-henrik/4OY23xEQ/"]Henrik Tommernes[/a] put the leaders 3-2 ahead just after the halfway point in the match.[/p][p]Things got better for the Gothenburg side just 14 seconds into the third when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ruotsalainen-arttu/MTEBCg7i/"]Arttu Ruotsalainen[/a] found the net, but Orebro didn't cave in, pulling one back through [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/quenneville-david/lIkMB1an/"]David Quenneville[/a] with 12 minutes to play. [/p][p]The third period featured just nine shots on goal, but seven of them belonged to Orebro, who were rewarded for their dominance two minutes from time, when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/oscarson-milton/AyRM2l4P/"]Milton Oscarson[/a] equalised to make it 4-4 and send the game to overtime.[/p][p]02:11 into OT, Frolunda were handed a real blow when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/johansson-lars/2Z26JitS/"]Lars Johansson[/a] was sent to the box for tripping, and that was all the invitation Karlkvist needed to bookend the game with his second goal a minute later, as 12th-placed Orebro ended a four-game winless run with a dramatic victory.[/p][embed guid="70ab569c-2549-4de9-bbb1-5a7710788032" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wwSVbI-uRU" social-type="youtube" /][p]Frolunda stay atop the standings on goal difference after [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/skelleftea/8jdWygW7/"]Skelleftea[/a] were also on the end of a [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/leksand-6X2ODGwL/skelleftea-8jdWygW7/?mid=EFSegCe5"]2-1[/a] overtime upset at home to bottom-of-the-table [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/leksand/6X2ODGwL/"]Leksand[/a] who, like Orebro, ended a four-game losing streak.[/p][p]It took Skelleftea 90 seconds to set the wheels in motion on what looked to be a fifth win in a row, as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/bryggman-lars/boWd01ar/"]Lars Bryggman[/a] broke the deadlock, but despite Leksand offering their hosts a handful of powerplay chances, the expected goal rush never materialised.[/p][p]That came back to haunt the yellow & blacks in the final minute of regulation, as Leksand survived a lengthy spell of Skelleftea possession despite pulling the goaltender, before breaking down the ice and setting up [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lindqvist-michael/f3QpbFzd/"]Michael Lindqvist[/a] to equalise with 21 seconds to play.[/p][p]Leksand had 14 shots in the game compared to Skelleftea's 28, but that was all they needed to win the game - as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/koblar-tinus-luc/MqpIZzQQ/"]Tinus Koblar[/a] wound the puck around [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/mann-strauss/GrPMFgFm/"]Strauss Mann[/a] to notch the winner for his side in the third minute of overtime.[/p][embed guid="7a2eff2a-c9b9-4d42-ae66-d405399b4122" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgwhgzoqOj8" social-type="youtube" /][p]Leksand are still 10 points adrift at the foot of the standings after [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/hv-71/CG08m2ie/"]HV[/a] 71 made it a hat-trick of two-point wins for the bottom three teams against sides in the top six, as they beat [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/rogle/j5ve8f1r/"]Rogle[/a] [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/hv-71-CG08m2ie/rogle-j5ve8f1r/?mid=GtlxZsAj"]4-3[/a] on penalties away from home.[/p][p]Rogle fought back from 3-1 down at the start of the final period to send the game to overtime, but after no winning goal, strikes from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/johnsen-martin/8tpGSYih/"]Martin Johnsen[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/woods-riley/td03aEeK/"]Riley Woods[/a] secured the points in the shootout for HV, who end a two-match losing run and inflict the same current record on the Angelholm side.[/p][embed guid="56028f17-66f3-45ac-9127-c9c19da72d12" url="https://x.com/SHLse/status/2024558590120374713" social-type="twitter" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/vaxjo/hzXCSnCE/"]Vaxjo[/a] were the only side in the top six to record a victory in Round 44, edging [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/lulea/0QhOwF1e/"]Lulea[/a] [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/lulea-0QhOwF1e/vaxjo-hzXCSnCE/?mid=dvdVxiBO"]2-1[/a] for a third win in succession. The Lakers sit third but 11 points off the top two, while Lulea are in sixth, and their first loss in three sees them clinging onto that position by just two points.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/malmo/pO1SCzgR/"]Malmo[/a] remain two points clear of Lulea despite a fourth defeat in five, going down [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/malmo-pO1SCzgR/timra-KC8bDdOE/?mid=dxROdo2c"]5-2[/a] away at [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/timra/KC8bDdOE/"]Timra[/a]. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/freij-alfons/OpSLJxAA/"]Alfons Freij[/a] scored two powerplay goals for the home side, who have put six points between themselves and those outside the playoff places with two successive wins.[/p][embed guid="87ecfb8e-fa20-4dad-9e29-7780fa6d34ad" url="https://x.com/SHLse/status/2024566768526614551" social-type="twitter" /][p]Three regulation-time wins in a row puts [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/brynas/MZgKvenk/"]Brynas[/a] currently on the best run, they are in seventh and chasing down Lulea after brushing aside [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/djurgarden/Q7UY6Hrs/"]Djurgarden[/a], [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/brynas-MZgKvenk/djurgarden-Q7UY6Hrs/?mid=n3yucfdt"]5-2[/a]. The Stockholm side drop to eighth after failing to extend what was a four-match winning streak.[/p][p]Overtaking the Iron Stoves are [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/farjestad/4b1TBPb8/"]Farjestad[/a], who put their two-game losing run behind them with two [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/philp-luke/0Et0isbo/"]Luke Philp[/a] goals in a [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/farjestad-4b1TBPb8/linkoping-8njZmM61/?mid=AsM4ijQH"]4-2[/a] win away at [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/linkoping/8njZmM61/"]Linkoping[/a], whose second loss in a row has seen them lose touch with Timra in the race for the top 10.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/hockey/sweden/shl/"]Check out all the latest SHL scores, stats and standings on Flashscore.[/a][/p]
