Max Verstappen orders reporter to 'get out' of press conference ahead of Japanese Grand Prix

Four-time world champion Max Verstappen was involved in a flashpoint ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix on Thursday when he refused to start his press conference until an English journalist had left the room.

[p]The Red Bull driver sat down to speak to reporters at the team's hospitality suite in Suzuka, but then said, [b]"I'm not speaking before he's leaving",[/b] and gestured at a journalist from The Guardian newspaper.[/p][p]The journalist asked [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/verstappen-max/UV3mgeXB/"]Verstappen[/a] if his demand was because of a question he had asked the driver last season, to which Verstappen replied "yes" and told him to "get out".[/p][p]The reporter left and Verstappen continued with the press conference.[/p][embed guid="55b0a97e-0df5-4253-946d-01a9ae5d302a" url="https://x.com/autosport/status/2037057472263750084" social-type="twitter" /][p]The reporter later told AFP that the incident stemmed from a question he had asked Verstappen after the Dutchman missed out on a fifth world title to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/norris-lando/WSVABbVF/"]Lando Norris[/a] by two championship points at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December.[/p][p]The question centred on the impact of a penalty that Verstappen had picked up for ramming Mercedes driver [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/russell-george/xxF56RaN/"]George Russell[/a] at the Spanish Grand Prix in June.[/p]
