The Philadelphia Flyers shut out the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 during Monday's matchup as they now take a 2-0 series lead in the first round of the playoffs.

[p]Teams that win the first two playoff games on the road go on to win the series 80% of the time (90-22). The Flyers are 18-0 when leading 2-0 in a best-of-seven playoff series. [/p][p]Philly didn't record a single shutout all season until now, as goalie [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/vladar-daniel/AqbXiQ8C/"]Dan Vladar[/a] recorded his first playoff shutout after putting up 27 saves. He also finished with the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/philadelphia-flyers-QySGG7oT/pittsburgh-penguins-AkN0nWU6/?mid=8bYPpVQi"]highest player rating[/a] (8.8) of any player.[/p][p]Vladar became just the second Flyers goalie to record a shutout against the Penguins in the playoffs, the first being Martin Biron in 2009.[/p][p]The series will now head back to Philly for Game 3 and Game 4.  [/p]
Recap & Highlights
[p]After Philly's [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/foerster-tyson/bJRGCl0Q/"]Tyson Foerster[/a] committed the first penalty of the game, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/pittsburgh-penguins/AkN0nWU6/"]Pittsburgh[/a]'s [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/karlsson-erik/QPyAsZAH/"]Erik Karlsson[/a] would get rung up 47 into their power play for a minor tripping penalty as it went to a 4-on-4.[/p][p]With 11 seconds left on the 4-on-4, Philly committed another penalty after [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ristolainen-rasmus/fL7FTDMh/"]Rasmus Ristolainen[/a] was called for roughing for swinging at [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/crosby-sidney/UTbIZpKC/"]Sidney Crosby[/a]'s head. [/p][p]After that penalty was killed off by the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/philadelphia-flyers/QySGG7oT/"]Flyers[/a], [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/seeler-nick/0b6bLJ6R/"]Nick Seeler[/a] would commit a roughing penalty as they went back on the PK right away. [/p][embed guid="ee2b6719-93c6-47bf-bdc4-540e5ac668c3" url="https://x.com/BR_OpenIce/status/2046373332400877997?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]Pittsburgh would finish the first period putting up only two shots on goal despite having three power play opportunities - they would go on to 25 in the next two periods combined. [/p][p]It wouldn't be until 6:21 left in the second that the Flyers would be the ones to score the first goal after going nearly eight minutes without a shot on net.[/p][p]Game 1 hero and 19-year-old [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/martone-porter/jmrvz23T/"]Porter Martone[/a] would put the Flyers up [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/hockey/philadelphia-flyers-QySGG7oT/pittsburgh-penguins-AkN0nWU6/?mid=8bYPpVQi"]1-0[/a] with his second goal of the series.[/p][p]He became the first teenager in Flyers history to score in each of his first two playoff games and the only the 12th to do so all-time. [/p][embed guid="3edd83d8-86a4-4a70-8f94-6c7d88395865" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Qi4xcuem-w" social-type="youtube" /][p]After the Flyers would find themselves in their fourth penalty kill situation of the night, it wouldn't faze them as they would get on the board while short-handed. [/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/hathaway-garnet/jF9H382g/"]Garnet Hathaway[/a] would score his fourth career postseason goal thanks to a disgusting assist from [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tippett-owen/OEMYdnRA/"]Owen Tippett[/a] to make it 2-0. [/p][p]It was just Hathaway's second goal all year, with his only one during the regular season coming back in January against the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/tampa-bay-lightning/YVE3zk1c/"]Tampa Bay Lightning[/a]. [/p][p]His short-handed goal became the first of any Flyers player since [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/filppula-valtteri/OI60i7QA/"]Valtteri Filppula[/a] did the same in Game 5, also against the Penguins in the first round, exactly eight years ago today.[/p][embed guid="ed86eacd-fe76-4e78-be65-3dc603cd316d" url="https://x.com/NHL/status/2046390178453893293?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]During the regular season, the Penguins gave up the second-most shorthanded goals of any team with 12 ([a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/colorado-avalanche/hACAnvBa/"]Avalanche[/a] - 13). [/p][p]Despite the score, Pittsburgh had a much better period on the forecheck as both teams finished with 12 shots on goal. Still, heading into the third period of Game 2, the Penguins were 0-for-6 on the power play.[/p][p]It would go on to be 0-for-7 after they failed on their fifth power play of Game 2. [/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/glendening-luke/lYqeob5g/"]Luke Glendening[/a] would put the final nail in the coffin to make it 3-0 as the Flyers move to just two more wins away from advancing. [/p][p]After a rough start, Pittsburgh would outshoot Philly 27-22, while Philly would outhit the Pens 48-31. The Flyers would also put up a whopping 23 blocked shots to Pittsburgh's eight. [/p][p]Game 3 will be on Wednesday, April 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. [/p][embed guid="67874f5e-3500-4845-baa5-a34f0191b41a" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CafTNq7ykQ&pp=0gcJCdMKAYcqIYzv" social-type="youtube" /]
