Brondby sack head coach Steve Cooper after disappointing season in Danish Superliga

Brondby have sacked coach Steve Cooper with immediate effect.

[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/brondby/67R5vKqt/"]Brondby IF[/a] have ended their collaboration with head coach [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/reid-steven/U1katGPM/"]Steve Cooper[/a] with immediate effect. The club announces that assistant coach [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tate-alan/KrGqHJAr/"]Alan Tate[/a] is also leaving.[/p][p]The Danish club has also hired [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/nielsen-julius/GAPtmUNn/"]Julius Ohnesorge[/a] as their new director of football.[/p][p]Cooper has been the head coach at the club since September last year. Since then, Brondby has had a season with fluctuating results and finished in fourth place in the Superliga.[/p][p]The Welsh coach's last match was against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/fc-copenhagen/hSPZwbEh/"]FC Copenhagen[/a], where Brondby lost 1-3 after extra time and thus failed to secure a place in the Conference League qualification for next season.[/p][p]Scott [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/mclachlan-riley/K6G43tLs/"]McLachlan[/a], vice-chairman of Brondby's board, tells the club's website that the results and performances are the basis for the decision.[/p][embed guid="1aa20e0a-e259-462d-a2fe-ccebdd612f37" url="https://x.com/BrondbyIF/status/2057893835737375124" social-type="twitter" /][p][b]"By hiring Steve, we made a choice that we both believed and hoped could lift the club to a new level. That is why we have chosen to say goodbye to both Steve and Alan today",[/b] McLachlan tells the club's website.[/p][p]The Welsh head coach was in charge for 28 matches as Brondby coach. He has previously been the manager of English clubs such as Leicester and Nottingham Forest.[/p][p]This resulted in 10 wins, 6 draws, and 12 defeats at Brondby.[/p][p]Brondby is also implementing a change in the sporting management, where Ohnesorge, who has been technical director since the summer of 2025, will become football director.[/p][p]He takes over the position from Benjamin Schmedes, who has previously announced that he has been given a new job as sports director in the German league organization, DFL.[/p]
