The Ghana head coach said his side lost their discipline after Marvin Senaya’s early injury, and that Colombia scored “in one moment that the team was not organised” while leaving his own future open.

[p]Carlos Queiroz has attributed [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/ghana/nNBjHale/"]Ghana[/a]’s [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/colombia-G02s4PCS/ghana-nNBjHale/?mid=IF40Fk9U"]1-0 defeat[/a] to [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/colombia/G02s4PCS/"]Colombia[/a] in the round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup to a lack of organisation defensively.[/p][p]A [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/arias-jhon/YNxvrQqS/"]Jhon Arias[/a] 14th-minute far-post tap-in was all Colombia needed to end the Black Stars’ tournament and set up a round-of-16 meeting with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/switzerland/rHJ2vy1B/"]Switzerland[/a] in Vancouver.[/p][p]Ghana, despite a bright opening spell that saw Thomas Partey drag a shot wide of the left post inside the opening 10 minutes, could not find a way back. They ended the 90 minutes with zero shots on target and just 0.26 expected goals to Colombia’s 2.06.[/p][p]Speaking after the match at Arrowhead Stadium, the Portuguese trainer offered a candid assessment of where his side had gone wrong.[/p][embed guid="358bc9cb-04f8-4f17-845a-32a29c78f554" url="https://x.com/GhanaBlackstars/status/2073249096970715375?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]“The quality of our passes was not what we expected. We made a lot of mistakes and conceded counter attacks.”[/p][p]“They scored in one moment that the team was not organised.”[/p][infobox id="4ccc1b10-d68f-4c97-bcf4-5e613c17c2e3" /][p]The disorganisation Queiroz referred to was rooted in an injury that changed the shape of Ghana’s night. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/senaya-marvin/YFqLAlLI/"]Marvin Senaya[/a], the starting right-back, went down inside the opening 10 minutes with a problem that ended his match, forcing [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/seidu-alidu/bi8NhkWD/"]Seidu[/a] into an early introduction.[/p][p]Colombia struck a minute later as a wide attack down Ghana’s right that culminated in the Suarez cross Seidu drifted off, leaving Arias free at the far post. Queiroz saw the game shift from that moment.[/p][image alt="Marvin Senaya in tears after being subbed off against Colombia due to injury." id="260e0678-4688-4108-86f3-d1de87ed8c0e" credit-line="ČTK / AP / Nick Tre. Queiroz was appointed in April on a short-term deal which included a clause to renew for two years which was tied to Ghana’s World Cup performance.[/p][p]Asked at his post-match press conference what came next for him personally, the 73-year-old offered a characteristically light answer.[/p][p]“What’s next for me is to have a glass of water and relax, refresh for the next morning and start to make other decisions.”[/p][p]It remains to be seen what the future will hold for Queiroz but for the Black Stars, they next return to action in September when they face Ivory Coast in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.[/p][image alt="Owuraku Ampofo" id="345f5fd0-6a26-4f45-8078-6462582c5da7" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="0084b3dc-c83e-4d32-8387-4cebb9a317ae" original-width="1200" original-height="381" /]
