Under-fire Danish coach Riemer says there are no excuses for missing out on World Cup

[p]The Czech Republic ⁠clinched a spot at this year's World Cup ‌by beating Denmark 3-1 on ‌penalties after an ‌absorbing encounter in which ‌they led in normal time ‌and extra time on Tuesday.[/p][p]Denmark went into the World Cup qualification as top-seeded, but despite having three chances to seal the necessary results against Belarus, Scotland, and the Czech Republic, the Danish players will now be on holiday when 48 teams from all over the world compete for the World Cup this summer.[/p][p][b]"We are, of course, disappointed that we could not give the Danes the ultimate goal. A World Cup that we all dreamed of – both players and our nation. Of course, it's on our shoulders, and it is we who have failed and have not qualified the team."[/b][/p][p][b]"We should not stand around making excuses on a night like tonight. We lacked the final quality. We had a grip on the game in many ways, but we did not create enough chances"[/b], said Riemer to TV Sport.[/p][p]Riemer went on to say that the game against Belarus in the Parken stadium, where Denmark could only draw 2-2 despite needing a win, was the game where it started to go wrong for the Danes in the qualifying campaign.[/p]
