Arsenal moved a step closer to winning a first Premier League (PL) title in 22 years with a 1-0 win over already-relegated Burnley, shifting the pressure onto Manchester City ahead of their penultimate match on Tuesday.

[p]Knowing they could take a big step towards making history here, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/arsenal/hA1Zm19f/"]Arsenal[/a] showed great patience in building up to their opener.[/p][p]The Gunners’ first clear chance came when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/trossard-leandro/xUAbnjp2/"]Leandro Trossard[/a] brilliantly worked himself into space to hammer a low shot onto the near post from outside the area, before [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/eze-eberechi/Stf4BYFn/"]Eberechi Eze[/a] registered his side’s first shot on target with a hooked volley from distance. [/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/arteta-mikel/lAbHYaQM/"]Mikel Arteta[/a] was incensed when [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/saka-bukayo/08NLEo06/"]Bukayo Saka[/a] was denied a penalty after clashing with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/lucas-pires/tUnyqGA3/"]Lucas Pires[/a], while [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/odegaard-martin/ID32TGhp/"]Martin Odegaard[/a]’s shot from a pocket of space in the area was deflected a whisker wide.[/p][p]The hosts only had to wait for the resulting corner to finally hit the opener, and it would be a record-breaking 18th goal of the season from corner situations for Arsenal. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/havertz-kai/rH8BZWiI/"]Kai Havertz[/a] rose highest of a crowd of bodies in the six-yard box to nod into the middle of the net, handing Saka his 50th PL assist in the process. [/p][embed guid="a1249d84-d707-4a42-9a40-825b41fbcd3e" url="https://x.com/premierleague/status/2056460444815028485" social-type="twitter" /][p]That took them nicely into half-time, and they re-emerged wanting more, though Eze wasn’t so lucky as his shot looped onto the top of the bar via [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/weiss-max/2LzwmImr/"]Max Weiß[/a]’s fingertip.[/p][p]Still trailing title rivals [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/manchester-city/Wtn9Stg0/"]Man City[/a] on goals scored, Arsenal searched for another to edge ahead on goal difference, just in case that came into play on the final matchday.[/p][p]Goalscorer Havertz was perhaps overzealous in his challenge on [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/ugochukwu-chimuanya/v96vkvGe/"]Lesley Ugochukwu[/a], but was spared an early bath by referee Paul Tierney, before Trossard’s shot faded wide of the top corner. [/p][p]The hosts were also granted plenty of injury time to get that second, but they were understandably content to settle for a vital three points.[/p][image alt="Momentum" id="051788bc-6905-418e-abe0-8dd678b56862" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform" guid="4f8e4d7d-bfa9-4cfa-be9d-e1df0cabea4b" original-width="1920" original-height="1080" /][p]Arsenal’s third consecutive 1-0 victory means that any slip-up from Man City against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/bournemouth/OtpNdwrc/"]Bournemouth[/a] on Tuesday will bring the title back to North London even before the Gunners play [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/crystal-palace/AovF1Mia/"]Crystal Palace[/a] on the final day – a scenario which would hand them valuable extra preparation time for the upcoming UEFA Champions League final.[/p][p]It’s a completely different picture for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/burnley/z3dmTMMO/"]Burnley[/a], who must now beat [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/wolves/j3Azpf5d/"]Wolves[/a] next weekend to avoid an outright club record for the lowest number of league wins in a top-flight season.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/rice-declan/zkQ8Cm6n/"]Declan Rice[/a] ([a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/arsenal/hA1Zm19f/"]Arsenal[/a])[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/arsenal-hA1Zm19f/burnley-z3dmTMMO/?mid=Gxt6zm15"]Catch up on the match here.[/a][/p]
Key stats
[image alt="Key match stats" id="fb918a9f-6881-4ccb-90be-9958f70022aa" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform" guid="77a77ba4-bf11-42ac-ad74-8f2acadc2145" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /][p]- In this game, Bukayo Saka assisted his 50th goal for Arsenal in the Premier League[/p][p]- Arsenal have kept a clean sheet in each of their last four games in the Premier League, a run of 446 minutes without conceding a goal[/p][p]- Burnley failed to attempt a shot on target in this game; it's the first time they failed to attempt a shot on target in a game in the Premier League since facing Sunderland on 2nd February 2026[/p]
