Man receives suspended sentence for racist posts about England's Carter

A 60-year-old man who posted racist online messages about England defender Jess Carter during last year's women's Euros received a suspended jail sentence on Wednesday.

[p]Nigel Dewale sent two posts from his TikTok account under the username Bogeyman during the tournament, held in Switzerland.[/p][p]He used derogatory language, saying people with brown skin were murderers and "groomers".[/p][p]The messages were later traced to Dewale, who was arrested and charged.[/p][p]He was sentenced at Blackburn Magistrates' Court, in northwest England, to six weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months.[/p][p]Dewale pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to sending a grossly offensive message via a public communications network.[/p][p]Former [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/chelsea/Q7Hu2UDD/"]Chelsea[/a] defender [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/carter-jessica/beLZpWbC/"]Carter[/a], 28, who plays for the US team [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/gotham-fc/l8iSqzTb/"]Gotham FC[/a], was part of the Lionesses squad that successfully defended their title at the European Championship.[/p]
