Slovenia stage comeback to see off Scotland at Hampden Park

[p]Despite little quality in the opening half-hour, the home side took the lead with their first shot on target.[/p][p]When a [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/hendry-jack/StUI6cWs/"]Jack Hendry[/a] header bounced back off the post, both [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/mcburnie-oliver/rNFSg6i4/"]Oli McBurnie[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/christie-ryan/hWTaBxeh/"]Ryan Christie[/a] were on hand to bundle it home, with the latter getting the final touch.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/slovenia/tfMf3PoO/"]Slovenia[/a] quickly went on the attack for an equaliser, but staunch Scottish defending denied them.[/p][p]In the 38th minute, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/sturm-danijel/WS55wx0h/"]Sturm[/a]’s excellent reverse ball split the home defence, but [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/vipotnik-zan/xYt5sXYC/"]Zan Vipotnik[/a]’s slight hesitance to shoot allowed [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/robertson-andrew/6e7Be9VI/"]Andy Robertson[/a] to make a heroic block.[/p][p]Within 12 seconds of the restart, Vipotnik was again denied by last-ditch defending, as Hendry flung himself in front of the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/swansea/K6xezbY7/"]Swansea[/a] striker’s shot.[/p][image alt="Momentum" id="6766bb17-2270-47df-acca-2d35dfc73235" credit-line="Flashscore" hidden-attrs="alt, credit" guid="afb55f93-9dee-4a83-bb00-6702b276f062" original-width="2160" original-height="2700" /][p]Time and again the away side found space behind the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/scotland/fZRU25WH/"]Scotland[/a] defence, and in the 57th minute they eventually converted a promising position into an equaliser.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/matko-aljosa/4Agv4nZ4/"]Aljosa Matko[/a]’s run beyond the last defender was found by a pinpoint Sturm pass, and the striker’s low drive from the edge of the box was too accurate for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gunn-angus/zaREt4aJ/"]Angus Gunn[/a] in the home goal.[/p][p]Sebastien Pocognoli was unable to plug the gaping holes in his side’s defence, and 14 minutes after the equaliser the comeback was complete.[/p][p]Roles were reversed, as Matko raced in behind the defence and squared the ball to Sturm, who thumped it home to seal a miserable descent into hopelessness for the hosts. [/p][p]A huge win for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/cesar-bostjan/l8DkIYRm/"]Bostjan Cesar[/a]’s side means one win from their two November matches will be enough to seal a place in the promotion play-offs, while Scotland will now need to win both of their remaining games, including a trip to table-toppers [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/switzerland/rHJ2vy1B/"]Switzerland[/a], to have any chance of joining Europe’s elite.[/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/oblak-jan/SYy8ZHN9/"]Jan Oblak[/a] ([a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/slovenia/tfMf3PoO/"]Slovenia[/a])[/p][embed guid="ee11bcee-5f1d-4a56-b91b-1221c9ca678a" url="https://x.com/nzs_si/status/2107571566297100799" social-type="twitter" /][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/scotland-fZRU25WH/slovenia-tfMf3PoO/?mid=S2ToNxm4"]Catch up on the match here.[/a][/p]
