Serena Williams will return to singles tennis at Wimbledon after being given the Grand Slam's final wildcard for the women's draw.

[p]23-time Grand Slam champion [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/williams-serena/ttsu68nH/"]Williams[/a] came out of retirement at the start of June, initially just playing doubles on her return to the court.[/p][p]She competed alongside [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/mboko-victoria/AqVez8TJ/"]Victoria Mboko[/a] at Queen's and played with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/muchova-karolina/Or4Qa1ye/"]Karolina Muchova[/a] in Berlin, and also announced that she'd partner up with sister [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/williams-venus/M7dojKaa/"]Venus[/a] for Wimbledon.[/p][p]However, it seemed as if she'd opted against making her return to singles action at the All-England Club when she wasn't included in the initial announcement of wildcard allocations.[/p][p]Those announcements left one three on the women's side though, and it's now been confirmed that she'll take it.[/p][embed guid="a387acad-37b6-4124-b653-529084b859cc" url="https://x.com/Wimbledon/status/2068766175018754128" social-type="twitter" /][p]Williams, widely regarded as the greatest female tennis player of all time, last played a singles match at Wimbledon as a wildcard in 2022, losing to Harmony Tan in round one. After that year's US Open a few months later, she said she would 'evolve away from tennis' although never officially retired.[/p][p]She first appeared at Wimbledon in 1998, reaching the singles third round. She won the title for the first time in 2002, beating older sister Venus in the final, and added singles crowns in 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2016 while also winning six doubles titles at the grass-court major with Venus.[/p]
