Jackson Chourio heroics lift Milwaukee to a 2-0 lead over San Diego in the NLDS

[p]On Saturday, the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/milwaukee-brewers/CGzqC60o/"]Milwaukee Brewers[/a] got over the edge against the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/san-diego-padres/8poQN9Ud/"]San Diego Padres[/a] in Game 1 of the NLDS in controversial fashion, but on Sunday, there was nothing controversial about the way they got the job done. Heading into the 9th inning, it was the Padres holding a 3-2 lead, and with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/miller-mason/zoqhIduK/"]Mason Miller[/a] taking the mound, there was optimism that the team were about to tie the series at 1-1.[/p][p]However, the Brewers then came to life, with three straight walks, including a fantastic at bat from backup catcher [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/sanchez-gary/YcmwSbt9/"]Gary Sanchez[/a], loading the bases for [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/chourio-jackson/rPDNY6eI/"]Chourio[/a]. Unsurprisingly, the 22-year-old star was ready to step up, and with two strikes against arguably baseball's best reliever, he got the job done, sending a pitch back up the middle to send the Milwaukee crowd into an uproar.[/p][embed guid="96984ef0-ad5e-4774-8e44-e5ebe8e52eef" url="https://x.com/Brewers/status/2106888549916418072" social-type="twitter" /][p]This was yet another moment for Chourio to show how much he's grown in such a short period of time, as he has blossomed into one of the most exciting young players in baseball. While he just missed on several high fastball's from Miller, he fouled one off with two strikes, and although fans may have been nervous, there wasn't any signs from the outfielder himself.[/p][p]Instead, he stayed composed, and instead of trying to do too much, he drove in both Christian Yelich and Sal Frelick with a mature single back up the middle, with the Milwaukee crowd whipped into a frenzy, well aware of the magnitude of a moment they had just witnessed.[/p][embed guid="9670ca05-e256-4325-a096-4afbd8994acc" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzcjQtv8ECU" social-type="youtube" /][p]While San Diego had the lead heading into the ninth inning, it was a tight, fantastic pitching duel with both Michael King and Logan Henderson tossing 5.0 frames to keep their teams in the fight late in the game. In the end, it was the Brewers crowd that willed their team back into the game, with Sanchez' at bat a potentially series defining one as he got Chourio to the plate, with the 22-year-old now 2-8 driving in four of the Brewers seven runs in the series to date.[/p][p]Outside of Chourio's heroics, the Brewers got more great play from Sal Frelick while Trevor Megill was key in relief, picking up the win with his inning of shutout ball as the Brewers continue to prove they're as balanced a team as anyone in Major League Baseball. [/p][embed guid="259a3d1d-403f-40a4-9543-26781c299c96" url="https://x.com/Brewers/status/2106891487615041698" social-type="twitter" /][p]For the Padres, this is another game that they believed they could win, with two RBI to Ty France enough to get them to the 9th inning, and after Miller converted 38 of the 41 save opportunities he had in the regular season, they had hopes of taking this series back to San Diego tied at 1-1. However, control was once again an issue for the 28-year-old star, and with three walks, the hit to Chourio and 40 pitches on the night, the Brewers will be optimistic they can stay on top of him if he finds his way to the mound again in this series.[/p][p]Now, the series shifts to Game 3 on Tuesday in San Diego, with the Padres hoping Nick Pivetta can help save their season, while Milwaukee will give the ball to Dustin May in hopes he can book the team a date with either the Los Angeles Dodgers or Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series.[/p]
