After weeks of tension with coach Gian Piero Gasperini, Claudio Ranieri's role as a senior advisor to AS Roma is now over. Gasperini had made it clear he no longer wanted to work with the former head coach, creating a rift the club was unable to mend, ultimately forcing them to choose between the two.

[p]In the showdown between Ranieri and Gasperini, the current coach has come out on top, earning the Friedkin Group's trust despite their high regard for the outgoing advisor. Gasperini's ultimatum left no room for compromise. Now, the relationship between the former Roma coach and the Giallorossi has reached its conclusion.[/p][p]The club's official statement read: "[a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/as-roma/zVqqL0ma/"]AS Roma[/a] announces that its relationship with Claudio Ranieri has ended.[/p][p]"The Club would like to thank Claudio for his significant contribution to Roma. He led the team through a very difficult time, and we will always be grateful for his efforts.[/p][p]"Looking to the future, our direction is clear. The Club is solid, with strong leadership and a clear vision. AS Roma will always come first.[/p][p]"We have full confidence in the path that awaits us under the technical guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, with the shared goal of growing, improving, and achieving results worthy of our history."[/p][embed guid="a107826f-2489-47f4-a304-e687ccc11814" url="https://x.com/ASRomaEN/status/2047617825695560154?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]Claudio Ranieri will therefore leave his role as senior advisor, a position he had held since the start of the season, working closely and directly with the American ownership. Sporting director Frederic Massara, who was chosen and brought in by Ranieri, will also be leaving.[/p][p]Gasperini never established a good working relationship with Ranieri, especially regarding transfer matters, and has repeatedly voiced his dissatisfaction publicly about the signings - or lack thereof - over the past months.[/p][p]The schism between Ranieri and Gasperini - who arrived at the club after nine years at [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/atalanta/8C9JjMXu/"]Atalanta[/a] - played out on several fronts: from conflicting views on the transfer market to disagreements over the medical staff and recovery times from injuries, the latest being the case of Brazilian [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/wesley-franca/zmtPBqz4/"]Wesley[/a].[/p][p]However, the point of no return came with Ranieri's harsh criticism of the coach on the eve of the match against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/pisa/roasMsOT/"]Pisa[/a], where he also admitted that the current coach would have been his third or fourth choice, with the final decision made by the ownership and not by him.[/p][image alt="Roma in the Serie A standings" id="fb2359b5-eba1-44d5-bf4e-03d06dd0e77c" credit-line="Flashscore" guid="c296eaa5-4649-4fe7-a9c8-3f8906e16d51" original-width="1200" original-height="1200" /][p]This rift, marked by a cold statement that Gasperini chose not to comment on at the time, weighed heavily in discussions with the ownership, ultimately leading to the ultimatum. The breakdown was so stark that the two didn't even speak during club lunches, leaving no room for reconciliation.[/p][p]The main beneficiary of this situation is Gasperini, who, with a three-year contract in hand, now has greater authority and more freedom in technical and transfer decisions. The coach is set to take on a greater role at Roma, similar to the one he held at Atalanta.[/p][p]As for Ranieri, there is talk of a possible role with the Italian Football Federation.[/p]
