Goalkeeper [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/mpasi-nzau-lionel/pzX674k0/"]Lionel Mpasi[/a] produced some fine saves to allow his nation to dream, but [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/kane-harry/v5HSlEAa/"]Harry Kane[/a] had other ideas. [/p][p]A header from the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/bayern-munich/nVp0wiqd/"]Bayern Munich[/a] man levelled the scores before he produced a sublime turn and finish into the top corner to win the game [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/d-r-congo-phn9mm8H/england-j9N9ZNFA/?mid=nkoQVAgB"]2-1[/a] for his nation. [/p][p]Despite a tepid and panicked first half, Thomas Tuchel’s changes made the difference as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gordon-anthony/EFo95m2P/"]Anthony Gordon[/a] picked up both assists for Kane, who is now in contention for the World Cup's Golden Boot.[/p][image alt="The Golden Boot race at the World Cup" id="0e9bc272-53dc-4c91-82bc-cec1ed25e519" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform / Hannah Mckay / Reuters" guid="e19c030b-6a17-44ba-a9e9-0721ceac9e76" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /]
Player of the day
[p]With the old guard struggling to fire for Belgium, up stepped Youri Tielemans to produce a captain's performance and drag his side to victory.[/p][p]Before the second hydration break, it didn't seem he would be our player of the day. Frustrated with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/trossard-leandro/xUAbnjp2/"]Leandro Trossard[/a], he let rip, gesticulating wildly at the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/arsenal/hA1Zm19f/"]Arsenal[/a] winger before the two came shoulder-to-shoulder. Congo, he looked beleaguered. [/p][p]But, four minutes from time, he showed he had a lot more energy left after a long season to keep England going at this World Cup. [/p][image alt="Harry Kane's goal against DR Congo" id="24b51cc9-76ec-49e3-9b3d-cb9f7ab77f8b" credit-line="Opta by StatsPerform / IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters / Brett Davis" guid="76ccccd2-e49f-4005-bfe1-9ccd88ad9b0e" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /][p]After being fed by Gordon on the edge of the box, he made space with three defenders for company, took another touch before blasting the ball into the top corner. [/p][p]It was a moment of quality from arguably the world's best number nine to settle the tie in what was England's first comeback win in a World Cup knockout game since the final in 1966. [/p]
Best from social media
[p]The Tour de France starts this weekend in Barcelona, and the team of Lotto-Intermarche had a little surprise for some of their riders, gifting them some Belgian shirts ahead of the big game.[/p][p]Their smiles suggest it felt like Christmas Day.[/p][embed guid="0a8af625-23f7-4e0b-a0cf-d4c40fca8e63" url="https://x.com/LottoIntermarch/status/2072417367519310139" social-type="twitter" /][infobox id="4ccc1b10-d68f-4c97-bcf4-5e613c17c2e3" /]
