Clara Tauson's troubled summer continues as struggling Dane suffers early Wimbledon exit

Clara Tauson troubled season continued at SW19 when she suffered an early exit from the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament as she lost against Greece's Maria Sakkari 3-6, 3-6.

On Tuesday, she lost in the first round at Wimbledon 3-6, 3-6 to Greek contender [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/sakkari-maria/KjsokFUj/"]Maria Sakkari[/a].[/p][p]Tauson, who is seeded 24 at the British Grand Slam tournament on grass, has had a difficult 2026, and the Dane's defeat means she cannot match her result from last year's Wimbledon, where she played her way through to the fourth round.[/p][p]Tauson has played at Wimbledon five times, and four times she has lost in the first round. Tauson made many unprovoked errors along the way, and the Dane was broken early in the first set, allowing Sakkari to take a 3-1 lead.[/p][p]The Dane's serve was actually quite effective when she got it in play, but the ground strokes, especially the forehand, failed too many times.[/p][p]At 5-3 in the first set, Sakkari, who is currently number 43 in the world, served home the first set without much difficulty.[/p][embed guid="e676e6ee-01d7-4250-8889-558b16390e2f" url="https://x.com/TheTennisLetter/status/2071916881196527953" social-type="twitter" /][p]Tauson has had a difficult 2026, and until recently had a stretch where injuries and a slump in form left her winless for over 100 days.[/p][p]Up until Wimbledon, she won some matches on the grass surface at Bad Homburg, but Tauson did not have much confidence on Wimbledon's court 15, where Tuesday's match was played.[/p][p]In the second set, Tauson had two break opportunities to make it to 4-4 after Sakkari had taken a 4-2 lead, but again Sakkari managed to extend the lead to 5-3.[/p][p]After that, Tauson seemed to give up completely and lost his serve and thus the match.[/p]
