Former New York Yankees relief pitcher David Robertson announced his retirement from Major League Baseball after 17 seasons on Friday.

Then, in 2022, Robertson would pitch in 36 games for the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/chicago-cubs/j7ZnBQFi/"]Cubs[/a] before the team traded him back to the Phillies for the remainder of the season. [/p][embed guid="a8600241-0bca-4c17-b397-e09fb540174c" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sogTOJq_ceI" social-type="youtube" /][p]A year later, Robertson would join the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/new-york-mets/I5wWW4UM/"]New York Mets[/a], who then traded him to the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/miami-marlins/ddxzWOqT/"]Miami Marlins[/a] - where he threw above a brutal 5.00 earned run average (at least 20 games) for the first time since his rookie season. [/p][p]In 2024, he joined the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/texas-rangers/f3GcHO7j/"]Texas Rangers[/a], before joining the Phillies one final time this season before hanging it up for good. [/p][p]Robertson finished his career with a great 2.93 ERA and 1,176 strikeouts through 894.1 innings pitched. Though being a rotational bullpen arm most of his career, Robertson found himself as a closer for three years (2014-2016), during which he recorded at least 30 saves in each of them. [/p][p]During his lone All-Star season, Robertson tossed a jaw-dropping 1.08 ERA through 66.2 innings with 100 strikeouts, 40 hits, and 35 walks. [/p][p]Since that season, Robertson never finished a full year with an ERA above 3.50, making him one of the most reliable relievers of his time. [/p][embed guid="fdda8c45-2eee-41b0-b835-dc50065b7ce9" url="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UQgHiZOnUg" social-type="youtube" /]
