A morale-boosting midweek Champions League win over Atletico Madrid was the perfect way for Tottenham to approach a must-win Premier League game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

[p]The Tricky Trees started [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/nottingham-UsushcZr/tottenham-UDg08Ohm/?mid=n5KMyNNi"]the game[/a] one place and one point below [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/tottenham/UDg08Ohm/"]Spurs[/a] in the table, with both teams teetering on the brink of the bottom three.[/p][p]With third-from-bottom [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/west-ham/Cxq57r8g/"]West Ham[/a]'s game against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/aston-villa/W00wmLO0/"]Aston Villa[/a] taking place at the same time, it wouldn't be known until full time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, exactly who would be in that final relegation spot.[/p]
Morale-boosting win in midweek for Spurs
[p]The Lilywhites hadn't won in 12 league games, whilst [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/nottingham/UsushcZr/"]Forest[/a] were on a seven-match winless run of their own, though the visitors had certainly got the better of their hosts in recent head-to-heads, having won 3-0 at the City Ground last time out, as well as the two games beforehand, letting in just one goal in that time.[/p][embed guid="c0b2b81d-1d7b-45e8-b098-c43972e35057" url="https://x.com/SpursOfficial/status/2035635353013358735" social-type="twitter" /][p]After a terrible start to his time in the Tottenham dugout, the Atleti result and a battling draw against [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/liverpool/lId4TMwf/"]Liverpool[/a] at Anfield suggested that [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tudor-igor/Qu12kvXf/"]Igor Tudor[/a] had finally turned a corner.[/p][p]Albeit the Croatian will have been in no doubt before the game as to just how important a win against this particular opponent would be.[/p]
Tottenham on the front foot but toothless in attack
[p]Although Spurs looked to attack in the early stages of the game, their accuracy was off, and none of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/tel-mathys/drANB1N8/"]Mathys Tel[/a], [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/richarlison/K82Dz773/"]Richarlison[/a] or [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/sarr-pape/CSjTl5sR/"]Pape Matar Sarr[/a] could find the target with their efforts.[/p][p]Forest were biding their time, but looking to make inroads down their left side. Indeed, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/spence-djed/GQAxKWes/"]Djed Spence[/a]'s four attempted tackles in the first half-hour were the most of any player, but only completing one successfully was a sign of things to come.[/p][image alt="Richarlison's heat map vs Nottingham Forest" id="755f090e-42b7-4848-b55d-2b5b8b8a33eb" credit-line="Opta by Stats Perform" guid="a4138526-e101-4bc5-b682-eecc05e9dd6c" original-width="1080" original-height="1080" /][p]Teammates [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/danso-kevin/z1MBQMNN/"]Kevin Danso[/a] and [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/romero-cristian/jBZTWXMn/"]Cristian Romero[/a] were working overtime in order to stifle Forest's attacking threat, and some of the former's 13 one-on-one duels won (from 18 attempted) were a chief reason why it took until the last minute of the first half before the hosts went a goal down.[/p][p]When the opening goal arrived, it was simplicity itself. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/igor-jesus/zPQTw5fe/"]Igor Jesus[/a] had won a corner with his first on-target effort and was then left unmarked at the back post, and had the easy task of heading into the net unchallenged.[/p]
Boos at half-time
[p]Ominously, Spurs hadn't won any of their previous 10 home matches this season (D3, L7) when conceding the opening goal, and Forest hadn't lost when scoring it (W5, D2).[/p][p]What's more, an 18th goal conceded in the final 15 minutes of a first half is the worst record in the entire Premier League in 2025/26, and suggests a collective 'switching off' by Tottenham's players, as they head towards the half-time break.[/p][embed guid="f621f085-ea8f-472a-907d-e39d22626547" url="https://x.com/NFFC/status/2035842301935714564" social-type="twitter" /][p]The hosts' response was to get their first shot on target in stoppage time, but the boos which greeted the team as they made their way down the tunnel spoke volumes.[/p][p]Tudor had seen enough and made a double substitution at the break, but his side just weren't at the races for long periods.[/p]
Forest biding their time
[p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gray-archie/KKqePmhD/"]Archie Gray[/a], normally one of his side's most creative players, couldn't string two passes together and his 77.6% completion stat was one of the worst on show.[/p][p]Richarlison fared even worse, with a 50% showing coming about because of just five accurate passes from only 10 made.[/p][image alt="Tottenham Hotspur v Nottingham Forest -
