Jamaica will face DR Congo to determine who will take their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup (WC) after a 1-0 win over New Caledonia in their inter-confederation playoff match at Estadio Akron.

[p]The first-ever H2H encounter between both nations, albeit arguably the most important one they will ever play, began in progressive circumstances as [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/jamaica/CWmDb3zj/"]Jamaica[/a]’s forward-thinking defender [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/king-richard/K0VLi12U/"]Richard King[/a] curled a 14th-minute effort from the left side of the penalty area only narrowly wide of the far post.[/p][p]Nevertheless, it didn’t take long after that for the Reggae Boyz to celebrate the game’s opening goal. [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/new-caledonia/0d8yIVUN/"]New Caledonia[/a] goalkeeper [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/nyikeine-rocky/bgMOrRRo/"]Rocky Nyikeine[/a] will not want to see the replay, as his inability to keep hold of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/webster-ronaldo/naPj3YhF/"]Ronaldo Webster[/a]’s powerfully struck low free-kick allowed [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/cadamarteri-bailey/fcpYbkRB/"]Bailey Cadamarteri[/a] to emphatically fire home the rebound with 18 minutes on the clock.[/p][p]That hard work was nearly undone shortly after the half-hour mark. Presented with a glorious chance to equalise before HT, [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/gope-fenepej-georges/ANOGnJxU/"]Georges Gope-Fenepej[/a] found himself one-on-one with [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/blake-andre/ABzjRFre/"]Andre Blake[/a].[/p][p]Inexplicably, instead of taking the ball further towards goal, the striker audaciously attempted to chip Jamaica’s captain, which ended in nightmarish fashion for him, as the ball landed straight into the goalkeeper’s gloves.[/p][embed guid="61721537-3415-4870-9f37-40728f730d99" url="https://x.com/FIFAWorldCup/status/2037393395354570919?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]With all but one of Jamaica’s previous seven matches seeing fewer than two-and-a-half-goals, every opportunity had to be taken. However, it appeared an unmarked [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/anderson-karoy/G8btOWUR/"]Karoy Anderson[/a] hadn’t got the memo as he horribly sent his side-footed effort from the edge of the box wide of the intended target.[/p][p]The Jamaican attack continued in the 66th minute, with only Nyikeine’s onrushing figure preventing Webster from getting his name on the scoresheet. Despite the introduction of [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/bailey-leon/Mc0XPojG/"]Leon Bailey[/a], the Reggae Boyz failed to call Nyikeine into action between his cameo and the conclusion of the contest.[/p][p]In spite of that, everyone associated with the Jamaica national team won’t lose much sleep considering how close they are now to this year’s WC.[/p][p]Jamaica’s sixth win across their previous nine matches (D2, L1) across both competitive and non-competitive action gives Rudolph Speid’s side every chance of making only their second-ever appearance at a WC following their sole visit at France 98. Meanwhile, New Caledonia’s wait to make their debut at FIFA’s principal tournament continues. [/p][p]Flashscore Man of the Match: Bailey Cadamarteri (Jamaica)[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/game/soccer/jamaica-CWmDb3zj/new-caledonia-0d8yIVUN/summary/stats/?mid=bsLmfNVN"]Check out all the match stats with Flashscore.[/a][/p]
