The Colorado Avalanche acquired center Nicolas Roy from the Toronto Maple Leafs in a trade deal on Thursday.

[p]In exchange, the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/toronto-maple-leafs/ShE7Z8G3/"]Maple Leafs[/a] are receiving a 2026 conditional fifth-round pick and a 2027 conditional first-round pick.[/p][p][a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/roy-nicolas/hx1Pj5zl/"]Roy[/a], 28, has five goals and 15 assists through 59 games this season, but has been having a rough go at it recently. He posted below a 7.0 in [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/roy-nicolas/hx1Pj5zl/"]our ratings system[/a] in each of the last six games, putting up just one assist and zero goals in that time frame. [/p][embed guid="18eac1ec-05e0-4654-999b-0dbe786cbe0f" url="https://x.com/Avalanche/status/2029606472217415729?s=20" social-type="twitter" /][p]He's posted at least 13 goals and 13 assists in each of the past four seasons during his time with the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/vegas-golden-knights/fTT0TsUg/"]Vegas Golden Knights[/a]. Roy was part of the blockbuster deal that sent [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/player/marner-mitchell/Agmv3YoI/"]Mitch Marner[/a] from the Leafs to Vegas, but he hasn't adjusted well since. [/p][p]Toronto is currently on a downturn as they've now lost all five of their games since coming back from the Olympic break. They sit at 27-24-11 (65 points) and rank 13th out of 16 in the Eastern Conference. [/p][p]Meanwhile, Roy will be joining the NHL's best team in the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/colorado-avalanche/hACAnvBa/"]Colorado Avalanche[/a], who boast a 41-10-9 record (91 points). They are the only team in the NHL right now with both 40+ wins and 90+ points. [/p][p]They lost in the first round of the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs after falling in seven games to the [a href="https://www.flashscore.ca/team/dallas-stars/vVAvnIuC/"]Dallas Stars[/a]. Now, they've dominated the NHL this year as they look to be prime favourites to win the Stanley Cup. [/p]
